SGL Invests in New Pacific Islands Area Company

Wednesday, Sep 3, 2014

SGL has invested in the future of the Pacific Islands Area with the formation of a new company, SGL Pacific Limited. SGL has completed a range of projects in the Pacific region in the past 18 months and whilst working on these projects, has recognised the significant development in sport, leisure and tourism industry that is occurring in this rapidly developing region.

SGL Pacific Limited now joins with SGL Consulting Group Australia Pty Ltd, SGL Consulting Group New Zealand Limited and SGL Funding New Zealand Limited to provide sport, leisure and tourism planning services across the very large Australasia region.

The new company will initially be based in Port Moresby as the majority of current projects are in this area but in the medium to longer term it is planned to expand the network of SGL offices to a range of Pacific Island countries.

The new directors of SGL Pacific Limited are Larry Sengstock, Michael King, Mark Upson and Daniel Kapi. The new company will assume responsibility for the five current Papua New Guinea (PNG) projects.

Over the next few months, representatives of the company will also visit a range of countries in the region to look at future project opportunities as well as promote the range of services and project assistance SGL can provide.

Michael King, a founding Director of SGL, indicates the company has been working on a range of commissions in the Pacific area and in line with it recognising the significant growth and development occurring in the region that SGL has now invested in forming the new company.

After a number of visits to the area Michael sees this region rapidly developing and whilst sport and activity have been a foundation for many years, the many countries in the region are starting to place a higher priority on sport and recreation and importantly through new facility development ensuring people have new opportunities to participate.

This is clearly shown for example in the $1 Billion Kina that the PNG Government has invested in the Port Moresby 2015 Pacific Games and its new and redeveloped events venues. Importantly it is planned to provide significant community benefit and legacy by ensuring these venues are available for use by local residents and visitors after the games. This new and improved facility legacy will also benefit PNG athletes from all levels and sports with the PNG Sports Foundation assuming management and operation of a large number of these new and redeveloped facilities.

SGL is proving leading edge solutions for the Port Moresby 2015 Pacific Games Legacy Committee and the PNG Sports Foundation in setting up new management and operational models at the major facilities.

Larry Sengstock, as a Director of SGL Pacific Limited, will head up operations at the new company and is already working on a range of major international event and sporting facilities and community projects.
